Keeping Science Current and Engaging in Science Literacy
Course Description: How many times have your students asked you how certain content is relevant to their lives? In this module, we will investigate how to connect the science content we teach to real life. In this module we will look at some real world examples, strategies to help students access this information, and tools to make connections between real world and classroom content.

Teachers are familiar with current events
Teachers know that literacy strategies need to be in place in order for all students to access current science information
Teachers are familiar with ways to make current science content accessible to students
Skills:
Develop lesson plans and unit plans that are based on current events and scientific debates.
Learn how to use Socratic Seminar to foster student discussions on current events
Use reading, writing and speaking strategies to support making connections between new events and content
Mindset:
Value bringing current events and scientific debates into the classroom as doing this heightens students interest and enables them to see how the content they are learning connects to real life.
