Module: Applying "Understanding by Design" Unit Planning Framework to Middle School Science Content
Course Description:
The “Understanding by Design Framework” offers a planning process and structure to guide curriculum, assessment, and instruction. In this module we will examine this framework and look at the development of lessons using the “Understanding by Design Framework” to see how it supports quality lesson planning.

Knowledge:
• Teachers know that there are multiple effective frameworks for designing quality instruction
• Teachers are knowledgeable about NGSS content standards and content objectives for MS Science
Skills:
• Teachers can develop a strong unit plan using this designated framework
• Teachers can identify results, learning experiences and assessment evidence for each unit of study
Mindset:
• Backwards planning is one way to develop rigorous and engaging units of study
• The belief that outlining desired results for a lesson/unit allows for teachers to plan in purposeful way.
